Amanda Lebel

I have always been drawn to patterns. I love textiles and wallpapers but I also find myself noticing repeating elements in nature. I have become increasingly interested in how humans have disrupted our local ecosystems. Books such as Bringing Nature Home by Doug Tallamy has influenced my work. I use pattern design as a way to explore the decline of native species and the rise of invasive plants.

I am also currently working on several children’s books. The ideas came to me shortly after having my twins as I imagined spending time reading to them as well as time in nature. I have fond memories of playing in my mother’s herb garden as a child. We decided to work on the projects together with my mother as the writer and myself as the illustrator. My hope for these books is to provide inspiration for children to spend time outside.
